How to make livesiute (.img) file from firmware dump files?
« on: September 10, 2012, 11:53:17 AM »
I have an "A13" chinese nameless tablet that i bought from DX,
I backed up my firmware with fw_dump2 (this tool: http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/boxchip-
a13-tablet/43691-tool-firmware-dumper-
a13.html) and then flash another rom, but from then my
touchscreen won't work.
I want to recover my backed up firmware but I
don't know how to create a livesuite .img file
from the 4 files that fw_dump2 created for me (bootloader.img, boot.img, recovery.img,
system.tgz). I saw some tutrials with the "A10 Flash Kitchen"
but there many files i haven't (like root.img,
bootfs) and i didn't succed doing that.
If someone know how to help me with this, I will
really appreciate it!
Thanks

ask them how to do over on the other forum where you got the tool !  You will have to search the web to find out how to use a rom kitchen .. there is no tutorial here ..

Hi,
Thanks for your replay,
I asked there but no one responsed yet. I've also send a private message to the user who posted the tool. I know that the fw_dump2 is a known tool and therefore i asked here too, maybe someone can help me here.
I searched the web for days but the tutorials for the kitchen is not based on the files that fw_dump2 creates.
I hope someone can help me anyway, or maybe give me a direction to start..
Thank you

:erm: honestly i am just now experimenting with the a13 platform and do not have much knowledge to share atm but i do recommend contacting re-seller and requesting the firmware for your model.

i personally am excited to learn as much as possible about this device and will soon be better educated for i do have one ordered that should arrive next week and i will be playing with the rom dumper and kitchen  8-)

If you are still interested .. i have figured out how to reassemble your rom dumps into a original working rom

Just respond here .. you need a computer with windows 7 32 bit (64bit may work but all i have is 32bit)  and Linux Mint 64 bit (ubuntu 64bit will also work)

I would be interested. I am in sort of the same boat. I have a device that has a bad flash and the company wants me to return it (2nd time) rather than send me the image. I used the fwdump2 tool on another of the same tablet, but nothing I have tried to get the root.img file has worked. I have Win764 and Mint 11 and 13 64 installed on my PC.

Thanks!

Satcomranger has made some good progess on this matter, currently I'm working on the Uberizer, if Satcomranger's trick is possible to automate without the use of x64 linux it will be part of the Uberizer.

well first off you will have problems making a zip file ... you need the correct meta-inf folder which is key to constructing the cwm zip file ..

I am all ears!!!!!

Yeah I've tried that. You need the original firmware to do it.

It will be fun to play with whenever I find the firmware.

or find one that is close then use  the rom dump bootloader from the working tablet... that is where most of drivers are loaded ..

Hi. I got a MID a13 android tablet that needs restoring. After flashing several unsuccessful attempts, I just want to create an image file from the 4 files that were backed up with rom dumper.  I've used several firmware image files and only the chinese ones boot up with a non responsive touch screen. Others won't even boot past the android screen. A search led me here, which someone said they could build it from the 4 files that were dumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated it.

well that process doesnt work yet.. have been unable to to merge suitable rom with a rom dump ..
try the uberizer .. it will restore a rom dump .. item 1  4     just take the romdump folder and place it in the uberizers rom_dump folder ..... by the way your rom dump is short one file .. which ones do you have ??

I too have problem restoring the backups. The 5 backup files are probably not enough.

I have to try a lot of different roms, use adb commands to restore the 5 files and reboot. Most of them don't work. Finally I found one that is compatible.

My tablet is a Q88, the cheapest one I found on Aliexpress. The compatible rom is Android-HYPER-TRAGiC.20120908.img

Then I can make a flashable rom to restore my tablet if something goes wrong again. The rom is still not exactly the same as when I first got my tablet. But everything works. good enough for me.

Thanks for everyone on this forum for the tutorials, tips and rom downloads.

==================

I did the following to make a flashable rom :

adb shell
cat /dev/block/nandd > /mnt/sdcard/system.img

Ctrl-C

adb pull /mnt/sdcard/system.img

I got a system.img file.

then I use imagesuite to extract the rom.
go to the IMAGE.IMG.DUMP/out directory

replace RFSFAT16_BOOT_00000000000 with the boot.img backup
(rename boot.img to RFSFAT16_BOOT_00000000000)

and replace bootloader.img, recovery.img and system.img in a similar fashion.

and then use imagesuite to repack.

the image.img file created is the flashable rom.

If I had to do this all over again, I would backup system.img in the beginning. Then to find a compatible rom, I would replace the *.img files in each rom before I flash and try. That would have saved some time.

hi satcomranger sorry by advance i read almost all threads about the question of dump and restoring on a13 but maybe because english is not my native language i don't totally understand something

as i have done with uberiser you can dump your a13 tablet with the function i and 3
and as its proposed and if i have undestood well what i have read on uberiser you can restore the frimware on the tablet i'm i allright ??

so if a want i can install all the rom i want and then if i have problems just find a rom that run directly adb and do the restoring directly ?

sorry i think you repeat yourself but i'm really confused maybe because of my english !

anyway thanks by advance for your answer ^^

edit :oups sorry its not maybe de good thread to ask this question

1)  You must do a rom dump  i  3  on the original tablet with the orignal rom and it is booting and working normally
2)  Shud your tablet fail you must flash a similar rom to get it booting again turn on adb (usb debug)
3)  and then restore the rom dump  i   4

DO NOT FLASH  an A13 unless you absolutely need to to get it working !
We advise you to get the original Factory Firmware from your re-seller if we do not have it in our rom's section. Thanks!

Hi, so I wanted to make an .img file for livesuit from one of my devices for use on my other tablet that is exactly the same. I have gotten the system.img and made a rom_dump from the working tablet. but the unimg/extract_img part dosnt seem to work. it just prints out wierd things like:

==¢Ô░³╩º░▄== IMAGEWTY[0]ÀÍ╬÷Íãθ╣ñ¥▀ [┐¬Àóı▀: esxgx]
Det går inte att hitta filen. (Basically it says that it cant find the file)

I have windows 7, 64-bit. I hope you can help, thanks.

Thanks

==================

I did the following to make a flashable rom :

adb shell
cat /dev/block/nandd > /mnt/sdcard/system.img

Ctrl-C

adb pull /mnt/sdcard/system.img

I got a system.img file.

then I use imagesuite to extract the rom.
go to the IMAGE.IMG.DUMP/out directory

replace RFSFAT16_BOOT_00000000000 with the boot.img backup
(rename boot.img to RFSFAT16_BOOT_00000000000)

and replace bootloader.img, recovery.img and system.img in a similar fashion.

and then use imagesuite to repack.

the image.img file created is the flashable rom.

If I had to do this all over again, I would backup system.img in the beginning. Then to find a compatible rom, I would replace the *.img files in each rom before I flash and try. That would have saved some time.

You cant make a image file from the dump .. use the uberizer to retore the dump .. ..

You cant make a image file from the dump .. use the uberizer to retore the dump .. ..

but likeulikeme got a flashable rom this way?
I got all the files from a working tablet.
The only problem is extracting with the unimg.

I understand that I should restore, but it dosnt work with uberizer, because it needs to enter cwm on the tablet when restoring, and as soon as the tablet enters the cwm, it stops working. CWM was what ruined my tablet the first time.

I will repeat myself jsut this one time .. YOU cannot make a flashable image from a rom dump .. IT DOESNT WORK ..
Use the correct CWM tghere are 3 of them  read this
