So I took apart my dongle.
It says M7206A ZJ 1.4

Must be #3, as MobileWizard had mentioned one called M7206A v1.2, and another called M7206B V1.4.

Hardware hell.

I pity resellers.

HcH, would you please quit everything else and give us a HoneyComb ROM right away? :D

Sorry, I was going off memory when I typed. M7206A ZJ 1.4, is one of the ones I had. The other is m7206b ZJ 1.2.

oddly one of them must be the same as some which came with the last of the via8650 I sold, as I used one as a replacement. Worked on some, didn't on others.

Funny you mention that, I've decided yesterday to first start on the M7206 roms instead of continueing the ZT180 mod. Ofc I'll need to get Uberoid 11 going first :-) that's going OK, still no phone support though.

Cheers!

Would be interested to see how this develops. What is the reason no one can build the kernels ?

I didn't succeed myself, but if you want to give it a try here is the sourcecode of the kernel:

http://ftp.gpl-devices.org/pub/vendors/Wondermedia/WM8650/

Back to this. I've grabbed those sources (btw they've uploaded new sources there) and managed to compile it without any problems:
Code: [Select]
Image Name:   Linux-2.6.32.9-default
Created:      Thu Dec 22 13:00:14 2011
Image Type:   ARM Linux Kernel Image (uncompressed)
Data Size:    2818912 Bytes = 2752.84 kB = 2.69 MB
Load Address: 00008000
Entry Point:  00008000
  Image arch/arm/boot/uImage is ready
  Image uzImage.bin is ready
# file ./arch/arm/boot/uImage
uImage: u-boot legacy uImage, Linux-2.6.32.9-default, Linux/ARM, OS Kernel Image (Not compressed), 2818912 bytes, Thu Dec 22 13:00:14 2011, Load Address: 0x00008000, Entry Point: 0x00008000, Header CRC: 0xEE9C5568, Data CRC: 0xBD11471F
Did this on gentoo, with crossdev -A eabi -t arm-unknown-gnueabi
While the sources from gpl-devices.org still had all things compiled, I did "make clean" and recompilled it.
I wonder why these kernel images are smaller than the one included with uberoid.
Anyone willing to test this kernel on wm8650 device? It is not 2.3 android, it's just a new kernel, need to test if it boots. I don't have WM8650 device at hand atm. Here is the download link: http://multi-up.com/616570 or http://www.multiupload.com/9NN183XCSC

let me give you a buyers beware... i have ordered 3 tablets from a reseller and they were all supposed to be the same but when i recieved them they all 3 looked the same but the "guts" were all different.... the only way to really know what you got is to check the system/build.prop files and this requires root.     just to let you know!!!!   these resellers are selling these tablets soooo fast that the manufacturers are using different firmwares and the resellers cant keep updated fast enough to properly inform buyers such as you and me ......  but good luck with your purchase and we have several tips and tricks on here to help you as much as possible at the current time.... and uberoid is in development process for these infotm tablets.  ooh yeah they are better than the wm8650 of yesterday.... faster and better graphics.     hope this helps!!!

Hi twjordo

Nice heads up. I will wait to see what HcH is working on before jumping in and buying a new tablet. Meanwhile can you point me in the right direction as to buying a new battery for my MiD7 wm8650. I'm very brave with electronics. Specially these tablets  :android-ninja:

thanks again for the BBW

Hey Chuckie,
Here's a source for the battery in my MID7 wm8650 tablet (http://www.pandawill.com/original-battery-for-eken-m001-m002-m009-m009s-mid-p40091.html). You'll need to check whether this battery is right for yours, but as far as vendors go I've had pretty good luck with them so far. :android-wink:
My tablet: 7"  Eken M009S (small blue dot on back)
Green power LED (red on charge), black audio port
Dual-touch, no vibrate, 256 Mb RAM, 2Gb storage

Current Uberoid v: 11 beta 3 - Option 30
